During the fiscal year 2004-2005, I had the privilege to have very dedicated Council of Governors and hard working Council Committee Chairmen. I felt their attendance wherever I went and this made me so comfortable and proud.
I congratulated District Governor Sylvester Heng and his wise choice of Lion Leaders to serve with him in his Cabinet. I have known Sylvester since the last MD Convention in Singapore when he picked me from the Senai Airport in Johore Bahru. Instead of sending me to the hotel, guess what, he brought me to a nice restaurant and there I had a sumptuous Chinese dinner. We talked for an hour and from then, I saw a district governor in the making. I was happy that my prediction came true. I knew under the capable leadership of DG Sylvester Heng, he will bring district 308A1 to an eventful, active and fruitful one.
60 Presidents were installed and, in my speech, I told them they were in a position to lead by example, in the spirit of the Lions Objects and its Code of Ethics. In our society today, they were, in general, more challenged by their profession, family, social and economics issues. They have to be even more focused and dedicated in order to fulfill their obligations not only as a Lion but also as a common citizen of their community. I urged them to work together as it was working together with common objectives and demonstrating good team spirit, they would achieve the Lionistic goals for the year.
2004-2005 International President’s theme of “Share Success through Services” adds clarity to their roles and responsibilities in further extending the great spirit of Lionism. I wished them well.
The evening's event was memorable especially with all the presidents installed at the same time which was a right move to start a fiscal year. This only proves that the clubs had the right foresight to promote harmony and understanding of the Lions in Singapore. Harmony within the framework of a club, a district, a Multiple District or even LCI can get things done. Without it, great achievements are impossible. I say ‘sybas’ to you for creating such harmony.
